Caribbean Project
Marrison Hydraulics travelled over to the Caribbean to meet with the client and help assess the viability of refurbishing old Cameco harvesters. They had 50 units in the yard they wanted to repair.
Challenges
The Cameco 2500 series chopper harvester was extremely complex in the hydraulics and had a lot of hydraulic hoses that made them difficult to keep running as they got older.
Actions Taken
- Complete Redesign: We carried out a complete redesign of the hydraulic system to simplify and reduce the number of components by 25%.
- Hydraulic Hose Reduction: With the Marrison designed new simplified hydraulic system, we achieved a reduction of 35% in hydraulic hoses.
- Local Mechanics: Identified and worked with local mechanics who had limited mechanical skills.
- Language Barriers: Worked with local management and mechanics who had very little English language skills to develop, assemble, and fit hydraulic hoses to the prototype machine.
- Bill of Materials: Developed a complete bill of materials and hose list for future machines.
- Presentation: Created a PowerPoint presentation to better explain the new simplified system.
- Commissioning: Travelled overseas in 2023, Worked with local management and mechanical personnel to commission and field the prototype machine.
